News Story of the Week

This week I’m bringing you something different in the story of the week. The Warriors of Qiugang (this is the full, free video) is a 40 minute, academy award nominated documentary that follows a village’s battle against a large, polluting factory.

Stories like this are why I love the organizations I work with here in China that are working to create a more sustainable China.

If you watch the documentary, please take the time to leave your comments below.

Finally got a chance to watch the documentary. I am constantly amazed at the things we don’t know that are going on in the world around us. I mean we all know we have a “problem” but to what extent is that problem? As long as we keep our blinders on, which are pretty comfortable, we fail to see the issues around us. I’m glad that his story had a happier ending then most, but for every story like this one there are several more which are unheard. I hope that this documentary spreads and opens the doors for others in the same situation. As frustrating and hopeless as it may seem we can fight against the big businesses and governments, we just need a first step and the will to continue down that path.

Thanks Tom for sharing this video with us.

I’m glad you enjoyed the video, and took something away from it. There was a secondary reason that I wanted to share it, that was because his village is representative of around 1/3 of China.
There are many others who did not succeed in working against business and their local gov’t, we will never hear their stories. People like this man are often silenced.
