Statement by the New Citizens Movement Website with Respect to the Sentences of Liu Ping, Wei Zhongping and Li Sihua

Published: June 19, 2014

[On June 19, 2014] three citizen activists were given harsh sentences in Xinyu: six and a half years for Liu Ping (刘萍) and Wei Zhongping (魏忠平), and three years for Li Sihua (李思华).

This is a reckless, shameless reprisal, and it has nothing to do with the law and the rule of law.

It is also a reprisal and humiliation against civil rights.

The Xinyu authorities have totally disregarded protest and condemnation from  all directions.

They have lost their minds and gone extremes. Their hubris and barbarism have no parallels. By harshly sentencing the three citizens in Xinyu, they have rejected any possibilities to dialogue with the civilized society, and they have shut down any way out for themselves.

Barbarians who leave no exit for themselves will inevitably be held accountable. They will pay personal prices for their barbarism, and they will not be able to attribute all of their actions to the system they serve.

History will record it all. The day will come when those who have humiliated others will bring humiliation onto themselves. We doubt it not.
