Proposing a Chinese Day of Fast

Citizens Movement in China, June 2, 2019

In the hearts of millions of people, there is a collective memory that has been suppressed for 30 years.

How to awaken this memory, and confront our nation’s historical wounds?

How to exorcise the haze of authoritarianism that has plagued this great land for millenia past?

How to break out from the totalitarian blockade, and set free the cry of our soul?

Pleas for exoneration? No, we will not get on our knees to beg. Furious condemnation? An exercise in futility.

We must not get on our knees to beg for exoneration, and anger-filled condemnations are exercises in futility. If we are to fundamentally part with the barbaric authoritarian past, we must purge the terror that predominates in the depths of our soul; we must say a farewell that comes from the bottom of the heart — and a new civilization awaits!

Holding vigil, wearing black in mourning, these acts can be suppressed and restricted. What cannot be restricted is fasting, which is possible even if you are deprived of your freedom.

Every year on this day, let us come together and, starting with the smallest of sacrifices, express our condolences for the departed. In silence, let us consider China’s future.

When millions come together to observe this moment, China will change. It will be al day of remembrance for our people for generations to come. When 1.3 billion people come together to observe this moment, our nation will have gained new life.

Starting June 3 at 10 p.m., until 9:59 p.m. on June 4, let us be joined in prayer: Heaven save China!

Doing so – especially for those who can’t or won’t.

  7. Sad indeed to think of a glorious civilization that has been taken backward by the present, evil ruling clique. Yet, there is hope and like they say ETERNAL.
